Boehner: Obama has no terror strategy

Minority Leader John Boehner is accusing the Obama administration of having no “real comprehensive” terrorism strategy, and says America has merely gotten “lucky” in preventing terrorist attacks.

It was Boehner’s (R-Ohio) harshest and most direct criticism of President Barack Obama in wake of the failed Times Square bombing plot. Boehner, speaking before reporters on Thursday afternoon, said he believed there is no “real comprehensive plan to confront a terrorist threat and to keep Americans safe.”

Boehner insisted that America has been lucky in preventing terrorist attacks, adding: “luck is not an effective strategy for fighting the terrorist treat.”

Boehner took particular aim at the idea that the alleged bomb plot was an isolated event – something Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano alluded to last week.

“The Obama administration has spoon-fed the American people with bland reassurances that this was just one off, or that this was just a lone wolf,” Boehner said.

Boehner did not offer any details on what Republicans would do differently. Much of what he harped on was the Obama administration’s rhetoric. He said that the White House refuses to admit that the U.S. is at war with “radical terrorism.”

“I want the administration to come forward with a broad plan for how we confront this,” Boehner said. “Clearly what’s going on in Afghanistan is a step in the right direction but there has to be a more comprehensive plan put forward.”

House Republican leaders this week have used the thwarted terrorist attack to bash Democrats on national security. House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.) earlier this week called Obama’s foreign policy “naïve.”
